Australian Standards recommend a timber pest inspection at least every 12 months - but more frequently in higher risk regions. Building practices over the last 20 years (slab-on-ground, pine frames & trusses etc.), have to a large extent allowed termites to have the ‘upper hand’ in the battle against termite ingress to premises. Post-construction factors like landscaping often add risk.
What is not evident today, could become evident tonight or tomorrow. The common textbook term is that termites forage “randomly and continuously”.
For this reason, qualified, skilled and experienced Timber Pest Inspectors will find that much can change on a site, even of over 3 month period. In fact, some homes have such a high combination of risk factors that we recommend inspections every 3 months.
